Back to school

Good Morning,

We are looking forward to a great 1st day of school! Please remember that today is a Wednesday and an early release day for all students. The dismissal time is 2:30pm.

We have an all school assembly this Friday August 17th at 9am. Parents are welcome to join us.

You can expect to receive weekly daily bulletins on Monday from the principal and class newsletters weekly from your child's classroom teacher. Please email us or call the school at 543-1645 if you have any questions. We are here to help in anyway we can!

Just a reminder that our mandatory parent orientation will take place next Tuesday August 21st from 6-7:30pm. The APC will do a brief introduction and presentation on charter schools and then you will have an opportunity to go to your child's classroom and your child's teacher will walk you through the parent contract and talking points of our school handbook. Before you leave for the evening, you will turn in a copy of this school year's parent contract to your child's teacher. If you cannot make this orientation, please email zachary_bastoky@lksd.org to schedule a time to review and sign the parent contract. We look forward to seeing everybody next Tuesday!

Thank you all for your support and are excited you are a part of the Ayaprun family.

Sincerely,

Zachary Bastoky, Angutekkar

Principal

Dear Community of Ayaprun Elitnaurvik,

Welcome back to school!

Our first day of school will be on Wednesday August 15th. It will be a regular Wednesday early release day, 2:30pm.

The normal school day, aside from Wednesday early release is:

Breakfast: 8:00-8:30

Lunch: (K-2, 11:30-12:00; 3-6, 12:00-12:30)

K-2: 8:30-2:45

3-6: 8:30-3:30

Classroom placements will be posted on the first day of school.

We will have an all school assembly on Friday August 17that 9am. All parents are welcome to join us!

We are excited for the first day of school! As I begin my second school year as principal here at Ayaprun Elitnaurvik, I continue to be energized and excited to be making a positive difference in the lives of your children. We will accomplish this together by working together (staff, APC, and community) to promote a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment. I will always provide an open door to my office and welcome your input and feedback.

Along with the excitement of the returning staff, I would like to give a warm welcome to Anastasia Brink, our new 3rd grade teacher. Tom Franc, our interventionist from last year will be teaching English grades 4-6 and Connie Sankwich will be returning full time as our special education teacher. We also welcome our newest teacher aide, Isabelle Dyment.

This year, other than the first day of school, the front gate to the classrooms will be closed until 8:25. If you need to see your child’s teacher or the front office, please enter and have your student wait in the lobby area. Please remember Yugtun Kingaan (Yugtun only) in the downstairs classroom area. Please speak quietly if you need to speak in English. Quyana for your help with this!

Until our busses are ready to start, we will be running two pick up/drop off lanes. The regular lane which loops around the entrance near the YK office building and last year's bus lane which enters on the far side of the Suurvik building. Please use either lane to drop off or pick up your child. Anna Charlie should have already contacted you regarding bus information/options before bussing starts around October 1.

If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is zachary_bastoky@lksd.org. You can also reach me by phone at 907-543-1645

In closing, I am looking forward to working with you and your students as we work toward a successful school year. I look forward to seeing everybody at our parent orientation on August 21st.

Just a quick update regarding our search for our open associate teacher position in 1st grade. The site personnel team and myself are still in the search for a teacher to fill this position, as it was posted early last spring. As soon as there are any updates, I will send out another letter to the community. I wish I had an exact time frame; however, we will continue working hard to provide our students the best possible instruction as this search for these open positions continue. We are fortunate to have former associate teacher and long time teacher aide Christine Owens fill in on a temporary basis.

Sincerely,

Zachary Bastoky
